Room-by-Room Photography Guide for Virtual Staging
Getting the best virtual staging results starts with capturing the right photos. Each room has optimal angles, lighting considerations, and technical requirements. This room-by-room guide ensures your photos are perfect for staging.
General Requirements
- Resolution: Minimum 1920×1080, ideally 4000×3000+
- Format: JPEG or PNG (RAW accepted by some services)
- Lens: Wide-angle (24mm equivalent or wider)
- Orientation: Landscape (horizontal) for most rooms
Living Room
Shots needed: 2-3
- Main shot from entry looking in (shows scale and flow)
- Corner shot showing windows and focal point
- Additional angle showing any special features
Tips: Capture the fireplace, large windows, or main focal point. Avoid shooting straight into windows.
Kitchen
Shots needed: 2-3
- Wide shot showing most appliances and counters
- Shot featuring any island or breakfast bar
- Additional angle showing dining connection if open concept
Tips: Clean counters help but aren't required (we remove clutter). Show the relationship between work areas.
Bedrooms
Shots needed: 1-2 per room (Master: 2-3)
- Shot from doorway or corner showing most of room
- Shot showing windows and natural light
- Master: additional shot showing ensuite or closet connection
Tips: Beds will be digitally staged if empty or replaced if occupied. Show room proportions clearly.
Bathrooms
Shots needed: 1-2
- Wide shot capturing vanity, tub/shower
- Avoid being in mirror reflection
- Small bathrooms may need only 1 shot
Tips: Toilet seat down. Shoot at an angle to avoid mirror reflections. We can remove toiletries.
Dining Room
Shots needed: 1-2
- Shot showing table area and space scale
- Connection to kitchen if open concept
Tips: Show how many people could reasonably dine here. Include any architectural details.
Home Office / Bonus Rooms
Shots needed: 1
- Show room function and size
- If currently empty, staging shows potential use
Tips: Work-from-home buyers value dedicated office space. Show it clearly.
Exterior
Shots needed: 2-3
- Front of house (slight angle, not straight on)
- Backyard/patio showing outdoor living space
- Any special features (pool, garden, views)
Tips: Overcast days produce better exterior photos (no harsh shadows). We can replace skies if needed.
What to Avoid
- Straight-into-window shots: Extreme contrast is difficult to fix
- Fish-eye distortion: Some wide angles create curved walls
- Blurry photos: The one thing editing can't fix
- Portrait orientation: Landscape works better for listings
- Partial rooms: Show enough space for staging to make sense
Don't Worry About
- Clutter (removed digitally)
- Personal items (removed)
- Dark rooms (lighting corrected)
- Minor color casts (fixed in editing)
- Existing furniture (removed or kept, your choice)
